The sad news was that Bennett and Jazz weren't able to come with us to Washington D.C. They have this commitment called a job? I don't know what that is. But anyway we drove in for 3 days. It was SO exciting to come around that first time and see the Capitol right there!
We found some awesome parking that was free (for 3 hours) right on the Tidal Basin by the MLK memorial. Win win.
Our next stop was the Lincoln Memorial.
No matter how prepared you think you are, you are still in awe when you are standing next to that statue. We were saying that we believed there was no way that people like Washington and Lincoln just randomly did what they did. They were definitely led by the Spirit and inspired.
We walked through the Vietnam memorial. I didn't feel like it was right to put on Instagram with a silly caption, because there were old veterans there and lots of people looking for names. SO sobering to see.
The Dwight D Eisenhower building or O.E.O.B. (Old Executive Office Building). So beautiful! And SO heavily guarded.
We then looped up towards the White House. I applied for a tour a few months ago and never heard back. Seriously. Turns out Obama was speaking at a college graduation somewhere... oh well.
One of the street performers had music playing and Cora was dancing in her waving hands way. So all the security guards and people walking around thought she was waving to them.
We then stopped for lunch and got hot dogs to eat with our peanut butter sandwiches. We're fancy. We ate them on the lawn by the Washington Monument and took a million pictures of Cora. Here are some highlights.
We did ALL that in 3 hours. We had to go move our car and buy diapers for Cora (because we were out) and stopped by the WWII memorial on our way. Cora hated being held at this point. Sorry kiddo, you chose to not walk.
Tiny was TIRED.
After finding a sketchy WalMart for Cora's diapers and some fruit for our drives, we went to the Jefferson Memorial and met up with Bekah! I haven't seen her in about 2 years, so it was way fun to see her and meet little Eli (who she nannies).
Our best attempt at having Brandon hold the Monument. It worked out well.
Next stop was the FDR Memorial. I hadn't even heard about it, but it was pretty amazing. Divided into 4 sections, each one themed after each term of his presidency.
Cora hadn't napped all day, so she was pretty punch drunk. She would just sit on the ground and do a giant fake laugh.
This might seem insensitive... but it was the perfect moment.
"So what are YOU doing here?"
Cora even laughed and gave Bekah a high five! So they were able to bond. It was way fun to spend the afternoon together!
When we got back to Maryland, we went to dinner with Bennett and Jazz as a little way to say thank you. We found a barbecue place nearby that gives you unseasoned meat but has 6 types of barbecue sauce at the table. SO GOOD.
Cici was just happy to be there!
Cousin bonding time.
And that concludes our first day. Phew, SO MANY PICTURES.
